That portion of the front of a building which is especially arranged to afford extensive show windows for a shop or store; characteristically, it is a screen of windows, glazed with large sheets of plate glass, the door being in a recessed vestibule, and the structural supports being reduced to a minimum, so as to give the greatest possible space for display of goods. Usually describes the first-floor of the structure only, not the entire front facade.
