Lucien Moore House – Detroit, Michigan

We encountered this house as it was undergoing a restoration with support from HGTV and Restore America. This was a partnership at the time including Bank of America and Lowe’s. The original had Ruskinian Gothic detailing with birck and stone trim. The arched window lintels with alternating light and dark colors were particularly pronounced. The central entry tower once had a gabled wall dormer and an even steeper pyramidal roof. This was sheared off above the third floor level as the cost and effort for maintenance likely exceeded whatever practical benefit this small space provided.

Close proximity to Comerica Park, Ford Field, and downtown Detroit ensured that this was a desirable location. At the same time the accumulated loss in the Brush Park was. The few remaining historic buildings are interspersed with number of yet to be restored and vacant lots covered in grass and trees.
