A building famous because of its association with a historic event or with the history of a locality. 2. Any building recognized by a competent authority as being historically significant or contributing to the historical significance of a historic district or heritage area, especially those listed (or eligible to be listed) in a national, state, provincial, territorial, or local government register or inventory of historic places.
