Metropolitan United Methodist Church – Detroit, Michigan

The Metropolitan Methodist Church cornerstone, for this building constructed in 1922.

Pointed arch entrance with trumeau dividing a pair of double doors to either side.

A mural showing the circuit rider, “Francis Asbury The Apostle of the Long Trail.” Early Methodists in America would spread the gospel riding on horse from home to home and town to town, prior to formal churches being established.

This niche depicts a scene of “The Dawn of the Reformation,” when Wycliffe sends forth his preachers with the first translation of the English Bible in 1382.

In another scene, John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, is seen preaching on his father’s tomb.

The corridors of Metropolitan UMC hint at the elegance of the sanctuary with the arched ceiling, masonry, and wall paintings.
