Field Notes: Open Space Technology

Isaac Kremer/ April 10, 2023/ Civic, Field Notes/ 0 comments

Open Space Technology is something I first became acquainted with in 2017. Since that time it has become an organizing principle for every meeting I moderate. The rules are simple:

  1. When it starts is the right time.
  2. Who shows up are the right people.
  3. When its over, its over.
  4. Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.

They are so versatile, in fact, that I often end every speaking engagement by creating an open space for shared learning to occur among session participants. Typically we make a circle so everyone can see one another. Then participants are invited to share and to make connections.
