The topmost horizontal member of a roof frame into which rafters are connected. The difference between a ridge beam, ridge board, and ridge pole lies in the size and shape of the member: a ridge beam is a heavy timber, a ridge board is a plank or board, and a ridge pole is a long log or pole (frequently found in cabin construction).
