parklet

Isaac Kremer/ October 1, 2023/ / 0 comments

A miniature public park that expands the pedestrian realm with seating, greenery, and other amenities. Typically constructed in two or more street parking spots. Most parklets are temporary and movable. Many cities now have programs that create semi-permanent or permanent parklets. Businesses have reported sales increasing by 20% or greater as a result of a parklet. As more people visit, linger, meet their friends, and enjoy. The pedlet is a variation, invented by William “Holly” Whyte that redirects pedestrian traffic from the sidewalk into the street to allow for other uses of the sidewalk such as for cafes and outdoor dining.
