Bermuda shutters
Window shutters mounted directly over the porch are called Bermuda shutters (also frequently referred to as Bahama shutters). Historically, they double as operational storm shutters that can be quickly pulled flat and locked securely against the window casing during heavy rains or high-wind events. Unlike traditional side-hinged shutters, these are attached at the top of the window frame and prop outward from the bottom using adjustable telescoping arms or support rods. They are specifically designed for coastal and subtropical climates like Florida to block intense, high-angled sunlight while simultaneously allowing fresh air and cross-breezes to circulate into the porch and interior.
