Farmers’ Market – Ithaca, New York

This rustic open-air wooden structure styled after a 13th-century European cathedral, with an open air clerestory and elevated roof above that. The market highlights regional businesses located within a 30-mile radius of the pavilion. Notable visible signage includes local staples like Damiani Wine Cellars.
Of all the vendors, one of our favorites was Gardens of Earthly Mirth. They made their own pesto and also had garlic and other organic produce for sale.
Early Morning Farm had a prime where two arms of the market intersected, making this a location that everyone would pass by.
The waterfront location gave a point for people to enjoy their purchases beside Cayuga Lake. For the more adventurous that may go on a boat tour yet, or even better yet – they might arrive and depart by boat.
Taking one last look back at the market, the shed roofs sloping away from the central passages of the market, protect both vendors and the interior passageways. Shoppers are also focused on walking the perimeter of the inside from end to end passing every vendor. The plan and massing of the structure is ingenious.
