Split-Level Ranch “House”

Isaac Kremer/ January 9, 2021/ / 0 comments

This multi-level structure is comprised of a one-story section (which contains the living room, dining room, and kitchen) and a 11/2- or 2-story section (commonly an L or T extension which contains the bedrooms with a garage below). The various levels, and, indeed, the two sections, are joined by a central staircase. A pair of gabled roofs covers the whole. Room arrangements vary. First introduced in the 1930s, this form did not become widespread until after 1950. Rickert 1967, 238; Foley 1980, 221; Walker 1981, 262. (Jakle, 1989)
