asphalt roll brick siding

Made from saturated felts coated with asphalt and having mineral (“metal”) granules on the side exposed to the weather; manufactured in shingle form, in rolls, or in panels with an insulated backing. Roll materials often have differently colored and embossed mineral surfaces that simulate brick and stone. A frequently seen example of this type of siding is asphalt roll brick siding. It was a popular method of covering inferior or badly weathered wood cladding in the middle part of the 20th century. (Phillips, 1994)
