Visit to Red Bank, New Jersey

We happened to visit Detour art gallery when the “Unprecedented” exhibition for Julie Rivera was showing. Her pieces had nature or animal themes that were cleverly adapted.

Their space and other objects from their collection. Sculpture had a prominent position throughout. The space allowed larger or more unusual pieces to be displayed with plenty of open space around them.

Detour Gallery occupies an interesting space between being a commercial gallery and the display of a private art collection that is not necessarily for sale. This tension between the two extremes, made visiting unique if not a little disorienting because it was not quite a store and not quite a museum. When asked to “Document Your Visit,” this tends to sound more like a museum than a gallery.

This retail space caught our eye with the simple, multi layered displays. One counter was a door taken off its hinges and laid flat.

Red Tank Brewing was filled with people enjoying a Saturday night out in Red Bank. They adapted an older building nicely, with a lofted ceiling and exposed roof beams.

One other detail that we appreciated as we left was the wayfinding signage. Everything was simple and understanded with an icon system to show people as well as tell them about different attractions.
