A board, often ornately carved, attached to the projecting edges of a gabled roof. The original name for bargeboard, vergeboard was used in early English wood construction. Now it is term for the decorative wooden edging on Gothic Revival and Victorian houses. Photo from Great Barrington, Massachusetts, 2017. (Kremer, 2021)
