Terra-cotta clay that has been formed with parallel air cells and fired for use as a wall, partition,, tile arch, or fireproof enclosure blocks; typically unglazed with mortared joints. Also known as hollow pottery. See also architectural terra-cotta, structural clay. (Bucher, 1996)
