A style of architecture prevalent in the Soviety Union from 1933 to 1955. Stalinist architecture, also known as Stalin’s empire style or socialist classicism, was architecture on a monumental scale expressing the totalitarian nature of the Soviet regime under Joseph Stalin. Central planning of whole districts saw buildings erected in brick and covered with stucco to impose the presence of the state. (Ambrose, 2008)
