Any of various red paint pigments composed of organic compounds combined with metallic bases; the organic portions from wood and insect dyes were replaced by aniline colors in the late 19th century; typically have fugitive color; bases include alumina, tin, lead, and chromium; colors include Dutch pink, rose lake, rose pink, and Vienna lake.
