Ottonian art
A style found in Germany and Lombardy under the Ottonian dynasty (tenth and eleventh centuries): essentially eclectic – combining Carolignian, Byzantine, and vaguely classical elements – it achieves a courtly, aristocratic elegance. Its most notable contribution in architecture was the Westwerk. Outstanding mniatures, fusing Carolingian and barbarian traditions. (Pothorn, 1979)
