In some cases, a nonprofit may be asked to be another organization’s fiscal agent, which means to accept and be responsible for grant or donation monies on another group’s behalf; this is typically used when new groups are waiting on their Letter of Determination from the IRS or when groups choose to be under a fiscal sponsor to save on administrative or reporting burdens.
