A wood column having a cross section that diminishes along its length. In determining the slenderness ratio for a tapered column, the least dimension is taken as the sum of the minimum diameter or least dimension and one-third the difference between the minimum and maximum diameters or lesser and greater dimensions. (Ching, 1995)
