A horizontal strip attached to girders or studs to carry floor joists. Ledger strip, ledger, and ledger board are usually used to describe strips attached to girders; whereas ribbon strip, ribbon board, and bearer are most often used to describe strips attached to studding. (Phillips, 1994)
