A robber, also called Damastes or Polypemon, who lived on the road from Megara to Athens. He used to force all travellers to lie down in one of two beds which he possessed: the tall in the little bed (which required cutting off their feet) and the short in the large bed (they were stretched violently to make them fit). Procrustes was killed by Theseus. (Grimal, 1990)
