A pine tree with a tall, round trunk and reddish-brown, coarse-grained, resinous strong ehartwood and creamy pink or yellow sapwood; found in wetlands and near streams from eastern Texas to southern Delaware; used for framing, sheathing, and millwork; lumbered primarily from 1870 to 1915; Pinus taeda. Also known as southern pine, yellow pine. (Bucher, 1996)
