Very heavy woods of great strength, withwhiteor yellowish sapwood and olivetodark brown heartwood, originating in the coastal regions of Central America and the West Indies. They are used for propeller-shaft bearings of ships and other machinery, pulley sheaths, caster wheels, and malletheads. (Saylor, 1952)
