Usually achieved by structural or painted false perspectives giving an illusion of greater space. During the Renaissance these architectural “tricks” were generally three-dimensional (plastic), while the Baroque on the whole used the two-dimensional medium of painting. One example of false perspective is the apse of Bramante’s S. Satiro in Milan. (Pothorn, 1979)
