Bricks, stones, tiles, or wood-blocks laid aslant in alternate rows or courses at 45 degrees to the general direction of the course or row, and at 90 degrees to the adjoining courses or rows, thus each course or row slopes in a different direction to those on either side or above and below, forming a zig-zag pattern.
