In Great Britain, wainscoting covering only the lower part of the walls of a room, usually 2 feet 6 inches to 5 or 6 feet high. In the U.S., a dado of woodwork; rare, as wainscoting is there seldom used for the whole wall. (Sturgis, 1900)
