A pair of rafters with their tie beam, collar beam, or other pieces which go to make up the simplest form of truss. 2. A force system of two equal, parallel forces acting in opposite directions and tending to produce rotation but not translation. The moment of a couple is equal in magnitude to the product of one of the forces and the perpendicular distance between the two forces. (Sturgis, 1900)
