butler’s pantry
Originally, and still in England, a room for the use of the butler, who has charge of the service of wine, and the service and stowage of plate. In the U.S. a small serving room adjoining the dining room, and furnished with shelves, glazed cupboards or dressers, a sink, and other conveniences, for the stowage and care of the silver and fine china, glass, and crockery, required for the table.
