A wood summer beam lintel over a large opening such as a shop window or fireplace, supported by side walls or pillars; sometimes carved; originally a large timber at the top of a one-story wall of a house with a half-timber frame above supported by corbels or brackets; so that the base of the half-timber wall is outside the masonry wall.
