Atwo-thirds double-pile house could be enlarged on a narrow urban lot by adding a one- ortwo-story rear extension. Extensions were usually narrower than the frontblock and Carried back on oneoriginalsidewall. This form was most popular in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
