Aluminum foil used to reflect radiant heat energy; in the second quarter of the 20th century used in wood frame walls and roofs as sheets behind sheathing or plaster boards, crumpled up within stud spaces, and as backing for wire lath; after WWII most often used in combination with other insulating materials, such as rigid insulation or batt insulation, as both an insulator and vapor barrier.
