A batten spanning across the ceiling joists and to which the plaster lath is fastened perpendicularly; used to level the ceiling. 2. Lath placed on a wall after the opposite face of the framing is plastered. 3. Lath strips nailed parallel to the framing to level the surface and raise the lath to provide a plaster key. 4. A roof tile lath strip installed perpendicular to two gauge lath to determine the spacing between them. (Bucher, 1996)
