Corinthian order of architecture

The term applied to the most ornate and richly foliated of the five orders of architecture, and the third in succession. The first being the Doric. This order derived its name from the fact of its invention by Cailimachus, a sculptor of Corinth, about 540 B.C. (Garnsey, 1887)
