A feature attached or engaged to a wall, with no openings for a fire or draft, used decoratively for architectural effect to conceal. Similar features include a blind wall. A blind fireplace may be an original feature to a building, or a modification as uses inside the building change causing the view or use of the fireplace to be obscured, or for security purposes to limit access in or out of the building, or both. Alternately called blank fireplace, dead fireplace, or false fireplace. Photo from New Orleans, Louisiana, 2024. (Kremer, 2024)
