Console, crossette, shouldering-piece, or truss resembling a scrolled bracket, supporting each end of a cornice over the antepagmenta of apertures in Classical architecture, narrower at the bottom than at the top (so wedge-shaped), although the term is loosely given to parallel-sided consoles, parotides, or prothyrides. 2. Keystone, often ornamented. 3. Quoin or two adjacent sides of a rectangle. 4. Cramp employed in masonry to join two stones. 5.
