Description
A period of design in Great Britain and the United States that emerged in the mid-19th century and lasted for several decades, emphasizing picturesqueness, variety, ruggedness and vigorous modification of historic details. Intended to separate more ornate, late 19th century buildings from simpler, earlier examples.
