A cross painted or carved on the wall of a church to indicate any one of the twelve spots touched with chrism by the bishop at the ceremony of the consecration of the church, which takes place on the day the debt for construction of the church is totally paid off. The cross usually has a bracket below it for a candle which is lit on the day or consecration and on subsequent anniversaries. (Harris, 1977)
