A slang term for a social scientist, such as an archaeologist, ethnologist or linguist, who tends to emphasize the differences that make artifacts, languages, and other cultural groupings appear unrelated, such as when classifying a multitype archaeological site, or an inventory or grouping of artifacts; as opposed to a lumper. (Bucher, 1996)
