An oleoresin solvent distilled from pine wood; inferior in quality to turpentine; typically removed with steam from the waste wood of a pine tree, such as stumps and small branches; used in paints and varnishes. Also known as wood spirits of turpentine, and, incorrectly, as oil of turpentine. (Bucher, 1996)
