Grouping furnishings with picturesque and aesthetic appeal. Brass figures and glass vases on a hall mantel, for instance, would catch light from the stair window during the day and the firelight at night. They also told a pleasant story about collecting. Tall vases at the corners of stair landings, hold arrangements of dried flowers and grasses. Hanging wall cabinets were readymade for the display of small objects.
