A short, non-load-bearing element for aesthetics or a structural component like a stub column, which is a short, often reinforced concrete, column that doesn’t connect directly to a foundation but instead sits on a beam or slab to transfer loads. Another architectural application is a stub girder, which is a short, thick metal beam used in composite construction systems to transfer loads from the concrete slab to the main steel beams.
