A large enclosed and covered area or porticus, serving for a bazaar or exchange; especially, the Septa Julia near the Campus Martius, which was a magnificent building decorated with many statues and divided into seven aisles by rows of columns, with rostra for public orations, booths for shops, etc. (Sturgis, 1900)
