A portion of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended; requires all U.S. federal agencies to take into account the effects of their undertakings on historic properties, and to afford the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation an opportunity to comment on any such undertakings. See also adverse effect, consultation process, undertaking. this process determines the effect that a federally funded project has on a resource and then seeks ways to avoid, minimize, or mitigate the effects. Many grant projects in historic districts will come with a Section 106 review. (Bucher, 1996)
