Boards produced by sawing a log lengthwise into four equal sections and then sawing each section into slices that are approximately radial to the original center of the log; produces boards with reduced likelihood of warping, and in some woods, such as oak, a distinctive grain pattern by exposing the medullary rays; there are several alternate ways of sawing the quarter sections into individual boards. Also known as quarter cut. See also edge grian, plain sawn, quarter sliced, rift cut, silver grain, vertical grain. (Bucher, 1996)
