Once nearly ubiquitous, now nearly entirely gone. Public pay phones provided a valuable communication function before cell phones became more common in the early 2000s. Owing to their durable construction, often the infrastructure to hold the phone is still present long after the phone has been removed. (Kremer, 2024)
