The Office of Prime, for 6 a.m., is the third of the eight “Hours of the Virgin” (or Offices). Prime is for The Annunciation to the Shepherds. The shepherds keeping watch over their flock by night receive from an angel an announcement of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. They hear a multitude of the heavenly host praising God.
