A round iron column that is composed of four quarter round segments with projecting flanges that are bolted or riveted together; also made with six or eight segments and in hexagonal and octagonal shapes; patented and first manufactured by the Phoenix Iron Cmpany of Pennsylvania in 1862; used for bridge posts and building columns.
