An architecturalmovement originating in mid-eighteenth century England, which sought to revive medieval forms in preference to the classical styles prevalent at the time. Popular in Great Britain, Europe and North America, perhaps more Gothic architecture was built during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries than was constructed in the original (medieval) period.
