Double-Pile Cottage with Gambrel Roof
A double-pile, 1- or 1 1/2-story cottage with gambrel roof, most eighteenth- and nineteenth-century examples have paired rooms on either side of a central hallway. Twentieth-century struc- tures only approximate this floor plan. In “Dutch Colonial” 1 1/2-story cottages, gambrel roofs are usually dominated by large dormers which create a two story effect.
