dollar store

A successor of the five and dime, the dollar store has merchandise priced at a dollar or less. Often it is of a lower quality or smaller quantity than material found in other places. Dollar stores extract wealth from the local economy and send it to outside corporations far outside. The growth of these corporations comes not so much from sales by store than by opening of new locations that have been ubiquitous across the American landscape.
